I have an AMD FX-8350 stock @ 4.0GHz, but out of nowhere, it just throttles down to 1.4 GHz. It is not overheating, i'm sitting at around 30-40c when this happens. It causes me to drop from 200 fps+ to like 30 fps in games, which is obviously quite a massive drop. I know it is supposed to throttle for certain reasons, but it isn't overheating so i can't possibly think of why it would be wanting to throttle. Because of this, i'm wanting to just force it to not throttle at all.

This thread is like a murder mystery. The more he talks the more evidence we find out. Now we have the past attack of power surges affecting his computer being introduced. This is getting good.........a real who done it.

i mean yeah, because the initial question was to just force throttling off.

I wish you the best of luck regarding your problem. You received good advice from the community. Now the hard part is on you to part with your hard earned money replacing the two best suspects............motherboard and psu. It has been a hoot.

so for around $200, would you guys suggest the Motherboard upgrade or PSU, if you had to pick one? It seems like the motherboard is definitely more of an issue but, i'm not the best with hardware, only software haha. What motherboard would you guys suggest? the sabertooth revision 2.0 like mojazz suggested?

While my bet would be its the motherboard causing the throttling that psu is not good quality and imho should be replaced soon. You can easily get a better motherboard and psu for under $200(assuming your in the US).

Okay if not it is okay, but just because of my lack of knowledge and the fact that PSU/Mobo require good wire management and stuff, is there a place you can go to get things installed? Or should i just do it myself and hope i dont screw up the wire management and such

alrighty, i dont believe my current one is modular, you can't unplug the wires from the PSU, so it wont be too fun to replace it but. figuring around $200, ik you gave me 3 of each, but could you say which of them you would suggest?

That is a great board. When I had my old 8350 it was in that.

Anyway, has anyone mentioned going into the bios and raising the LLC. Unless it is a power supply issue it would most likely stop the droop. Which I guess could be the reason it throttles.

Just a thought.
