Is there a way to have desktop icons without names underneath them, just the icon itself and no title?

My desktop background is designed to look like an office, complete with desk and shelves. I am kind of using my desktop icons to "decorate the office." The icons look really neat this way (computer on the desk, recycle bin on the floor, etc) but I really wish that the names of the icons would go away for a more streamlined look. I don't need them becuase the icons themselves are pretty self-explanatory and if the titles were gone my OCD would be appeased. Also, is there a way to remove the blue box with arrow from my shortcut icons?

Right click the icon and select [Rename]
Name the icon Alt+255 and hit Enter
(this means you hold down the Alt key and type 255 then release the Alt key)
The text will be gone from the icon.

For each successive icon to have the text eliminated, repeat the above sequence adding an additional Alt+255 sequence. For example, the second no text icon would be 'renamed' Alt+255 Alt+255, the third no text icon Alt+255 Alt+255 Alt+255

Cool, may I interupt and ask if there's a way to only have the files as plain clickable text without any icons? Or is it only possible with Linux?

Its possible on windows but it takes harder steps on accomplishing it but it should be easy to do on a Linux OS
