Is there a freeware program that works like Ancronis True Image or similarly easy to use for even a grandma? Tried to teach elderly but hard... also it is expensive and cannot afford for a 86yr old...How can I script it to back it up for the person say every 1 week etc..

Last I looked, both Seagate and WD have free versions of what apparently is Acronis for download from their websites. It is, respectively, their free disk utility and cloning software customized for use with their hardware only. For example, the Seagate utility Disk Wizard is based on Acronis True Image but will make clone copies TO a HDD only made by them (it does not care whose old HDD you are using as the SOURCE drive). Likewise, some of its HDD manipulation tools may not work on another maker's drive unit. The similar utility from WD is their Actonis True Image WD Edition.

So, if you can arrange to ensure that the utility you help your seniors install is the correct one for the HDD they will use as the DESTINATION drive for their cloning, you can use the correct one of those. If their use, instead, is manipulating their existing drive (not cloning), you might need to check more carefully about which version will do the job for their existing drive units.

Paperdoc is correct, our limited version of Acronis' software is free, it's called DiscWizard, and you can find it on our website by going here. If it's for a different manufacturer, then this Reddit post from an Acronis rep should help point you in the right direction. It also points to a step-by-step Knowledge Base article which can be helpful too.

Automating the backups outside of software which does it for you, relies on scripting and can get complicated if you don't already know a whole lot about what you're doing. If you'd like to go down that route, one solution you could look into would be Robocopy. Just make sure you've done your homework and know what you're getting into if that's what you want to do.

Apologies. Genuinely did not mean to necropost on an old thread. It showed up in the recent storage discussions list for some reason. Will look a little more carefully next time.
:/

No prob.
It wasn't you that did the initial necro, but rather a spammer.
