Is there any good cpu to upgrade my i5 650? That cpu bottlenecks my Rx 460 and i want to upgrade my cpu,if it is worth, supported by 1156 socket. Is there any worth in 2017? I wanted to upgrade to a pentium g4560 but my motherboard doesn't support it. Is that okay to find a used cpu ?

It will play GTA V at high settings (1080P) without any problems, that with a RX 480 8GB.

But things are much...
You will see a small upgrade with something like a I7 870 mostly in multi threaded programs. the I7 should be able to handle your card. Your only other option would be to start looking at parts for a new pc build.

i have already added items to my basket with amd r5 1500x processor. I have to sell my current pc first though

Nice choice you'll see a much bigger improvement with a new pc build. I just upgraded to a r5 1600 from my i7 2600 and
I am very happy with it.

I was running an I7 870 until not long ago with an RX 480 8GB and it played anything I wanted at good frame rates at 1080P.

But...

I just built a I7 7700K machine and there is a HUGE difference to say the least.

Thanks for the info. I think there is no need for me to upgrade to an i7 xxx first generation, unless i find a cheap one. They are old and expensive. Do you sell your old one? When you say you were playing anything you wanted, like what games? Because it is important what games you were playing smoothly.

Have you tried Gta V or Assassins creed syndicate? You are sure that your old cpu wasnt bottlenecing your gpu ?

Was using an RX 480 so no it wasn't.

Just upgraded to a xeon x3470 (similar to the i7 870) and i have seen huge different from the i5 650.Now i can play league of legends and cs go at ~ 300 fps, battlefield at 60 fps, gta v at 60 fps on high settings. But i still i think my graphics card (rx 460) can perform better with stronger CPUs. I don't get stable gpu usage i still get gpu Bouncing.

Honestly, I doubt you're actually having any CPU bottleneck issues now, it's far more likely that you're at the limit of what an entry-level GPU is going to give you. Your CPU now is about as strong for gaming as an FX-8350 and while that platform had issues, it wouldn't be bottlenecking things until you get to the GTX 970 range and that GPU was a *lot* more powerful than an RX 460.

I also doubt that i have a bottleneck but gpu usage shouldnt be stable at 90-100% to perform the maximum of its performance?

But things are much better on the new machine (I7 7700K and GTX 1080), can play with everything maxxed out so there is a difference.

The most demanding gaming I play is Rise OF the Tomb Raider, played and finished it on the i7 870 with RX 480 at 1080P at high settings DX12. It did struggle if I really turned things up, but then that game is very demanding, more the GPU limitation though.

That all said, with 1st Gen I7's it's really limited to the Mid Range cards like the RX 480/580 and the GTX 1060.

I believe it will bottleneck a GTX 1070 (Depending on the games I suppose), but then not sure how bad that would be as I don't have a GTX 1070 and I won't put my GTX 1080 in that machine.
