Is there any point buying a better pcie 3.0 than the one i have if i only have a 2.0 slot?

Ok so my motherboard only has a pcie 2.0 slot with a GT 640 which is obviously pcie 3.0 would there even be any improvement if i upgraded it to lets say a GTX 760 since a 2.0 slot is slower then a 3.0 slot?

A PCIe 2 slot is perfectly fine for any video card out now. The bigger question would be if your CPU can keep up with the faster video card.
