Is there any way I can get my PC to load large images faster?

I thought I had a pretty capable PC, but the time it takes for windows to load thumbnails for larger images or just open them at all is starting to become infuriating. The images open up within seconds in Photoshop? Is there anything I can do?

I will admit that there are a 1000 images in this library also, but I need more speed.

Sure. You could even split the library. Store the stuff you use frequently on the SSD and regulate the little used stuff to the hdd. It is just a library, not 1 single folder. You can have 10 different sources in a single library easily.
What are your specs?

to answer your question without know specs, I would suggest the following upgrades.

A SSD HDD which will enable faster boot & startup time including reduced application load times and increased random file read speed.

A decent GPU (GTX 950 from NVDIA/ Radeon R7 370 AMD)

Sorry for the delayed reply, but I had no idea how to pull the specs up.

SSD-1TB
Mother Board - Z97-G45 Gaming
Graphics Chipset - AMD Radeon R9 200 Series
Windows Version - Windows 10
System Memory - 16 GB
CPU Type - Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-4790K CPU @ 4.00GHz

Yes, opening them is very, very slow. So are the thumbnails. It takes ages for them to load. I use that new photo app in Win10. Could the fact that the library is on a WD MyCloud be a problem, I just remembered that?

If it is, can I move the library to an SSD? I was told that movies, music, and pictures could where out an SSD very quickly.

It's not so much that pictures wear out an SSD, its that they can take up a huge amount of space, are not generally used frequently, so that library is most usually regulated to HDD storage over SSD. Not many have a 1Tb SSD, most use a 120/250Gb SSD and a 1Tb HDD.

Personally, I'd invest in a 1Tb HDD just for that library, saves on SSD wear and tear and doesn't eat up a good chunk of that space. With the OS on the SSD, when you first access that library, it'll be a little slow, but after that, it'll be in the SSD cache, so will be accessed at SSD speed.

Thanks for the quick reply.
The family has some extra HDD's lying around, none of them are 1TB, though. They all combine for about 800GB, is it worth it? If it is, I'm really fearful of opening up the PC to put them in. Is it possible to use them with USB3.0 enclosures and get a decent effect?

Thanks, you are an awesome human being.
Thanks everyone!

And just so we're clear. I should move the pics off the MyCloud if I want more speed?
