i want to lock my games at 30 fps.
When i play games like tomb raider or thief it feels better with 30 fps.
my monitor is 60 hz and when i use v sync it locks at 60 fps ,well 60 fps is fine by me but when it drops to 50 or 45 the game feels like lagging so its better to play at constant 30 fps.

Solution

nice misinformation there mate LOL.

to the OP you can limit games to 30fps by:

NVIDIA:

1. set adaptive vsync to half-refresh rate, considering if you have a 60fps monitor it will lock to 30 fps

AMD:

1. download radeon pro, go to the tweaks menu, and from there you can set a 30hz refresh rate or a 30fps lock.

simple as that.

what are your specs? show me a screenshot of your radeonpro tweaks menu.

30fps vsynced > 60fps screen teared. especially on a 3rd person game. those lines are more annoying than your usual aliasing jaggies.

Hey,

is there a way for my car to only drive with 20 mph? I sometimes drive with 70-80 but takes me to work way too fast and later I don't know what to do with all the spare time...

Honestly people WHY would you GIMP your PC performance like that - go back to consoles if you want 30 FPS - because of people like this now we get more and more retardedly unoptimized ports for PC - http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/ubisoft-assassin-s-creed-unity-fps,news-49026.html

^people have their own reason. Constant 60fps is fine. But OP mention there are frame dropping. FPS moving between 40-60 is more annoying than constant 30FPS. And don't bring in console vs PC here when OP never said anything about it. To play at 60 fps or 30 fps it was his freedom.

Dude, I can argue with you forever and if you don't want to agree with me you never will but I will try just this once:

Since I started about cars I'll give you a simple maths car related question - Car A and car B are driving from point X to point Y. If a car A is driving with a speed that varies from 40 to 60 mph and a car B is driving with a constant speed of 30 mph which of these 2 cars will reach the destination first? Obviously car A...

If the car example wasn't relating well to the case I'll just go straight to the FPS in games we were talking about.
Every time the FPS gets higher the game feels smoother - do we agree on that? If yes then keep reading - to simplify things let's say that the game was running 50% of the time with 40 FPS and 50% of the time with 60 FPS. 40 feels somoother than 30 we agreed on that and 60 feels smoother than 30 we agreed on that too. Than since 40>30 and 60>30 the game is running better in 100% of the time.

If you don't agree that higher FPS is better than it's absolutely pointless to continue this conversation.

I know the OP never mentioned consoles but there isn't anything else I can associate 30 FPS in gaming with.

Nope I know higher frame rates feels smoother. But I also know how annoying it can be when there is big frame jumping. To me even 50-60 is noticeable. 40-60? That's really annoying. Personally if the frame drops only happen occasionally I will let it at 60fps cap. But if the FPS is so erratic I will cap it at 30 even if that I have to sacrifice smootheness so I can have much steadier pace. With 40-60 or 30-60 you can feel the game going slow and then going fast very noticeably.

@ Mouldread Using your analogy, it is more like going 60 mph and repeatedly stomping the brakes then gunning it again.

Some games...most really, you can change your fps in the ini. or registry. Example: Tomb Raider - http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=3088659

The link he posts shows the registry and commands.
http://tinypic.com/view.php?pic=2zf7bsw&s=6#.VEcu2PnF-M8
Line 10 " FullscreenRefreshRate " Where it says "data" is the value and is at 60 fps ( the norm ). Change this value to 30 and save it. Also make sure Vsync is off.

Vsync will auto set the fps to what your display can handle. In most cases that is 60 fps. http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/124553-13-what-vsync
@ 30 fps I doubt he will see tearing.

After looking into this further I see they Have made changes in the last year or so and it should not override the set fps value in most cases. I stand corrected, thank you. Try it both ways and see what works for best for you. I usually play full bore so I have not had to change any setting other than " normal " to " high " or " ultra ".

man i also have a ps4 and i play most of the games in it.I mostly play exclusives on pc. first i download the game from torrent and then i purchase the game.

my specs are
Sapphire Tri X r9 280x
Fx 6300 3.5 ghz
8gb ram

Battlefield 4 freezes only when saving (legit copy)
Thief rarely freezes(almost negligible) (legit copy)
Ghost freezes too much(like almost every 20 seconds) (not legit)(already have this game on ps4)
Most disturbing is The vanishing the ethan carter (it freezes too much , almost unplayable ) (not legit)
