Is this a fine build?

Looking around my room, I found a brand new "ASUS P8H77-v" and "Intel i5 3550". So I asked my dad what they're for, and he replied, "For a new build, but I never got around to it." So I went ahead and looked for some extra parts, and came up with this build: http://ca.pcpartpicker.com/p/jhczTW
How ever, they were purchased in 2012. My friend says the motherboard and cpu is garbage, but is that true? How will this build hold up against recording game play?

That build is solid, can run most games at medium-max.
