Is This A Good Gaming Set-Up?

Hi guys, I'm attempting to build a new gaming platform for myself for the first time (before now I have just bought pre-made desktops). I know a bit, but not all the ins-and-outs. I'm looking at spending a relatively large amount of money (I live in Australia so things are about 1.5-2.0x than they are everywhere else in the world) and here is what I'm looking at getting for the moment:

1. Asus Maximus IV Extreme ATX Motherboard
2. Intel i7 4770 Haswell 3.4GHz
3. Corsair 16Gb (2x 8Gb) DDR3 Vengeance 1600MHz
4. Corsair AX860 860W 80PLUS Platinum Modular Power Supply
5. XFX HD7970 GHZ Edition dual fan 3Gb GDDR5

Plus a 250Gb SSD and 500Gb HDD.

I'm pretty sure this would be a pretty good rig, but is there anything listed that is poor for gaming or just plain bad value for money? (I can't really spend too much more than this.)

Are you going to be doing any videorendering?

The Asus Maximus is overkill unless you are overclocking like a madman, putting in SLI/Crossfire cards, or trying to get bragging rights.

There is no reason you need a i7 4770. You can't overclock it and the i7 is just as good in gaming as i5s because games don't use hyperthreading.

The RAM is too much and you just need some Kingston HyperX Blu 1333 for around $59 or so for 8 gb that will only shave about 0% (zero percent) or so off your gaming performance.

The PSU is overkill (Don't worry, a common newb mystake) and you probably need around 600 watt tops. I recommend the GS 600.

The GHz Edition is crushed by the GTX 770 windforce you can get for a little bit more but can overclock the *!)#$ out of it.

The SSD for 250GB is overkill and you don't need it unless you are playing a game like Arma or care about knocking 2 seconds off your boot time.

The 500 GB HDD is not enough, I would go with a simple WD or SeaSonic HD that can hold at least 1 TB (Don't worry, it will fill up!)

You are overspending on that build too much man!

Nope. I'm in university at the moment and all I do on it essentially is game and write reports.
