Earlier this morning i threw a system design together for my friend in a budget. However, he told me a little bit ago that he would be ordering the parts soon. I just want to confirm that this is a good and working system.

This would be better and much more future proof since you won't be starting with 4-5 year old cpu and motherboard platform. It's actually cheaper than the original build before rebate.
