I am no computer genius, but I have previously overclocked my Ryzen 5 1600 quite a bit so I decided I would take a look at my new i7 8700k paired with a NZXT x62, which on stock idles at around 24 Celsius.

I have an ASUS Prime z370-p, in which on the bios has an "EZ Tuning Wizard" that overclocks the system by itself. I decided to do it just to see what they wizard would set my CPU to, so I applied it and booted my PC up. It has it set to 5ghz, which I wasn't planning on going that far.

I ran a cinebench test and my PC didn't crash or anythingthing, I got a 1605 (no clue if thats good)

Anyway, the point of this post was to ask if this EZ Tuning Wizard is safe, or if I should just do a manual like 4.7 overclock on default vlotages, if anyone knows reply!

I'll definitely just do more research and keep an eye on the temps, I appreciate the answers from you two.

I'm surprised it got that high with that cooler.

I'd suggest as smoochie recommended to read a guide and learn more about your mobo and CPU combo before attempting further OC's.

It's not that hard, and you will get better results. If you aim is to get max CPU speed/min voltage then through the bios is the only way to go.

Yep, Temps are back in control.. There are a lot of good guides on the various forums on the Asus boards, well worth a look. overclock.net helped me out a lot with my board on the overclocking settings.

Are you sure....Can you go back into the BIOS and set the optimised defaults which should bring you back to its original state of when you first got the motherboard. Then after saving and rebooting check your pump speed and idle temps.

Keep Hardware Info open so that you can see what is happening with fans and temps...

Did you install the cooler or was it prebuilt?

As vmax said, the cooler could be seated incorrectly or thermal paste may not be applied correctly. For me, and after what you've said, I think vmax is right on the money there.

If you are idling at 70, it's time to switch that baby off and get that paste and re-apply, and reseat cooler. If the cooler isn't in correctly even on just one fitting it would cause high temps like that.

+1^ Or even do a CMOS reset, just to really bring the bios back to basics.

Good point on the CMOS reset...

okay, so you have reinstalled the X62 with new thermal paste and everything is on securely...Can you get into the bios? If so, can you tell me the temps, and if you can go to the page where you can control the fans, can you tell me what speed the Pump is running at..All of this should BIOS.

I just want to make sure you have installed the X62 it properly...please excuse me if you have..

The X62 comes with a backplate and four stand offs..There are 3 different types of stand off's one for Socket Inte 115X which is the ones that you should be using...

One cable from the pump goes to the 4 pin fan header, one goes to the USB 2 port on the motherboard and the third to all the Fans...Sorry if I am going all the way to the basics...But we are missing something.

Also make sure you have tightend the bolts that fit the pump and the stand offd..Not too tight but on till they cant go further..

I just figured it out, the pump had an air bubble in it. I had to turn my PC upside down and let the pump do a cycle, its idling at 22-23 degrees on a 4 ghz clock now... She will stay there! Thanks for the help!

Really, really appreciate your help!
