Question Is this an symptom of overheating or much worse?

So what happened is that i've been playing 4 hours and suddenly my PC, or more like the motherboard, shuts off the display and keyboard doesn't react to input. But the power supply keeps running and so does the lights and fans. After leaving a while turned off, i've looked at the BIOS and the CPU temperature reaches to 70° celsius just in turning on the PC. So i'm wondering if what happened is that the CPU overheated and half shutdown the PC since the power supply kept going. Or something much worse like the motherboard and PSU failing? Need some help.

Here are the components:
MSI H81M-E33
PSU Cooler Master Elite V3 500w
Intel Core i3-4160 3,60 GHz

You forgot to include these:
Motherboard:
Ram:
SSD/HDD:
GPU:
Chassis:
OS:
Monitor:

As for your CPU, include the cooler for your processor. Might want to also pass on a picture of the innards of your PC.

That's actually a horrible unit. How old is the unit in your build?

i've been playing 4 hours
What were you playing on the system?

It's from a few months ago, my brother which is an tech enthusiast gave me for my first rig. It worked fine until recently that, sometimes it doesn't turn the CPU and by the forth attempt, it turns on properly.

What were you playing on the system?
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 (2009), i've had no issues like display flickering or slowdown within those 4 hours, although by the time i've started another game (GTA 5), the display flickered once and when i've pressed Alt+Tab, it died in the middle of switching to the desktop resolution.
