I see this often. Maybe an ebay expert has some insight.
Or maybe it's flat out shill bidding?

Check the bidding, one guy has raised the price a series of times with
no obviuous competition.

It's not a conclusion, it's a question.

So he must be bidding against an ebay proxy bid?

I didn't realize it would show those, or I guess I assumed it would
show the other bid that he's "losing" to.

Exactly.

Nothing shady going on here, thats just the way eBay shows the bids. I
sold an item on eBay once where this was a lot of this going on. One
guy would re-bid over & over adding a dollar at a time until he barely
topped the bid. The lady who was bidding against him did the "normal"
thing of just putting her max (for the moment) bid and letting eBay bid
it up for her. She accused me of all sorts of underhanded tactics
because she never understood the automatic buidding process in the
first place.

High bid US $46.00 Jun-12-05 20:24:30 PDT

Last try by Troy US $45.00 Jun-14-05 19:05:30 PDT

Troy added a couple of bucks at a time to see if he could get it for $45.

Notice the date of the high bid, before Troy bids.

I still see nothing fishy.
