Is this configuration a good desktop replacement?

Hello,

I am in the market for a laptop, but as I was looking at various configurations and I am wondering if this is a viable config for a desktop:

i7 4870HQ 2.5 GHz
16GB 1600 MHz
512GB SSD
750m 2GB

I was going to get a desktop and a laptop, but I am trying to keep everything for work, i.e. files and such, together. I am a web developer/graphic designer and I dabble in light video editing. I will be using various Adobe CC apps, multiple browsers and tabs, creating billboard size projects at times and light video editing...most of the stuff running at the same time. I will also be using it for simple tasks, such as web browsing, email, shopping and streaming video from Netflix and from a local home network server.

I was thinking if this configuration is good as a desktop replacement, I am just going to go for it.

Thank you in advance for all of your responses, advice and help!

Thanks for the fast reply!

That is good to know. I was worried that even though it is an i7 CPU, that since it is a laptop version it would not be powerful enough for that tasks that I need it to do.

Rough equivalent to a desktop i5, but with hyperthreading. As long as it is hooked up to AC power and it doesn't thermally throttle (cool pads are useful) it will be about that level of performance.

i7-4870HQ
Performance
6MB L3 Cache
# of Cores 4
# of Threads 8
Processor Base Frequency 2.5 GHz
Max Turbo Frequency 3.7 GHz
TDP 47 W

i5-4670
6MB L3 Cache
# of Cores 4
# of Threads 4
Processor Base Frequency 3.4 GHz
Max Turbo Frequency 3.8 GHz
TDP 84 W

Thank you very much! This is exactly the information that I was looking for. So, the 4870 is no slouch, correct? I am a little worried about the throttling. I will be using it mostly in clamshell mode in a vertical stand, if that makes a difference.

Being able to pick the heatsink and cooling is the benefit of a desktop. Just the compromise of a laptop.

Some laptops, a few Lenovos I can think of, have some of their vents covered by having the screen closed. As long as you make sure there is good airflow it should be fine.
