Question Is this deal worth it?

Hello, good people!


So, recently, I have been searching on the internet for some deals, and I found an MSI X99S GAMING 9 ACK with an i7 5820K CPU.

That bundle costs 338€.


So, is this a good deal? Idk if it will bottleneck an RX Vega 56 tho...

An Ryzen 5 2600 + B450 Tomahawk combo costs 391€ here.

Performance wise, both CPUs are equal,

Price wise, Intel CPU and MoBo, when used, have reasonable price since brand new CPU and MoBo can easily cost you €800, so, €400 or so for used ones are fine.
AMD combo, in the other hand, is extremely overpriced. I can get the same CPU and MoBo, brand new BTW, from amazon.de for €253.90.

Hmmm... will the 5820K be affected by Zombieload, etcetc? Im daaaaaaaaaaamn worried.

Spectre, Meltdown, Foreshadow, Foreshadow-NG, Zombieload, SPOILER etc are vulnerabilities that use speculative execution, affecting mainly Intel CPUs that were made between 1995-2018 (i7-5820K came out in 2014). Some of them also affect IBM and ARM CPUs. So far, AMD has stated that their CPUs remain mostly unaffected. Though, Spectre does affect AMD CPUs and Foreshadow-NG can also affect AMD builds since it targets the VMs (Virtual Machines).

On user side, only thing you can do is to keep your OS and firmware updated to the latest versions. Either that, or buy a CPU made in 2019, which has the vurnabilities in it fixed. As far as worrying about it goes, i don't think random person's home PC would be targeted for those attacks since there are far more valuable targets out there.
