A good upgrade.
The 11400f option will be stronger if they are priced similarly.
I think the extra $25 or so you pay for the non f version to get integrated graphics is well worth the insurance policy for gpu issues.
I have a GPU, so it doesn't really matter to me, and playing games on integrated graphics is a bad idea. but I'm looking at some processors that in terms of power and price. giving 300e for a cpu is a lot for me, but some 200e for a cpu is the max for me

IMO, if you are going to skip on the graphics card, I would recommend stepping up into the 12th gen. 11th gen isn't quite as powerful, but more to the point is that the 11600/700/900K CPU are still commanding a really high price now and for my own opinion think the cost is too much against performance. There was a time right at release of 12th gen that 11th went on sale for appealing prices. That is now happening with 12th gen.

If you select a half decent motherboard, that would leave you in a great position to update to a higher end 13th gen on 14 release.

edit- I also recommend purchasing the non F skew. The few dollars it cost more now make troubleshooting a rig so much easier.

I was thinking of getting a mbo b660m and (I found a cpu with a good price, I know it's F, but the price is good. New in the box, I didn't look used.) cpu 12400f. I think "it's not worth it to go to 11gen", and I currently have a 1070ti, so I'll keep it for a while, but my priority is cpu and ram... to upgrade because I'm currently on i5 4690k. and I looked at the r5 5600x and the i5 is stronger, at least that's what the internet and yt say

The F versions will not include integrated graphics.
It will cost you less for a non F version that even a minimal discrete graphics card would cost.

I know your decision on motherboard has changed but just to add regarding your op concerning motherboard chipset that fyi H10, no matter the generation, is Xmp limited to the CPU's memory controller. So for example if you were to run 10400 on a 510 motherboard, 3200 ram would be limited to 2666 as that is 10 series native speed. 11th series, and all other SKUs including 11400 has MC speed of 3200. You can find out memory controller info on Intel's website for any particular processor.

B60, Intel has changed how Xmp applies memory since 4xx series motherboards allowing Xmp overclocking above CPU MC.

I researched it all myself and that's why I decided to go with the 12 gen (or mybe 13) and the (mybe) b660m
