Hello! Is a EVGA FTW Edition ACX 2.0 NVIDIA GeForce GTX 970 ACX 2.0 4GB GDDR5 PCIe 3.0 x16 better or close to a NVIDIA GeForce GTX 980 4GB GDDR5 PCIe 3.0 x16 (Maxwell) and what is the difference between a FTW Edition SuperClocked and Turbo?

The 980 is a bit faster than the 970 but that gap closes up a bit if you overclok the 970. I dont think the 980 is good value anymore the price to performance ratio doesn't make sense, i would go for a 980 ti if you can afford it or a 970, skip over the 980. The r9 390 is also a great choice its very comparable to the 970 and i think its the better card overall. FTW has a higher stock clock speed and maybe a more robust power delivery system for better overclocking, the superclocked version is a slightly lower clocked version of the FTW. I personally think the FTW cards are overpirced and pointless, the supercloked version will be just as fast if you just turn up the clock speed a bit.

A 970 by all account is really good however its definitely not better than a 980. In gpu naming the first number stands for generation eg.those are both 9th gen cards. The second number is where it places in the generation a 980 is more powerful than a 970 which is better than a 960 etc. For 1080p a 970 will max out nearly everything with a nice buffer for increasingly demanding games.
