I’d say it would be a nice upgrade. Have a look at some of the charts on this review. At least in the few I took a look at the 6600 was pretty well at the bottom of the charts whereas the 9060xt was in the middle.

Your cpu could hold things back a little at 1080p. In your shoes I’d probably go for the gpu upgrade. May want to upgrade your psu as well. Don’t know much on that brand so might want to swap it for a higher quality unit while you’re in there.

Almost triple the performance in some titles, such as Oblivion remastered. Double the performance on average across 18 games in raster. I think it would be a worthwhile upgrade.

What kinds of games do you play?
Some games are graphics limited like fast action shooters.
Others are cpu core speed limited like strategy, sims, and mmo.
Multiplayer tends to like many threads.

To check if your cpu is capable of effectively using a much stronger graphics card, run this test:
Run YOUR games, but lower your resolution and eye candy.
This makes the graphics card loaf a bit.
If your FPS increases, it indicates that your cpu is strong enough to drive a better graphics configuration.
If your FPS stays the same, you are likely more cpu limited.

Only the very strongest of graphics cards will be impacted by being installed in a pci 3/4/5 slot. And, even then by not all that much. Likely not a consideration.

I did the test on Cyberpunk 2077.
On ultra settings at 1080p, 97 FPS.
On lowest settings + 1080p, 140 FPS. gpu usage 100%
On lowest settings + 720p, 140 FPS. gpu usage 60%

OP can always use SuperResolution to force 1440 on a 1080 monitor and eliminate the bottleneck.

In the meantime, I am having fun on resources like https://nominicasino.net/ where there is an incredible collection of gambling games
Forgive me for my lack of knowledge, but can GPU upgrades really improve performance that much?

See for yourself the benchmarks have been provided in an earlier post by ohio_buckeye. Of course they test GPU's with the fastest available CPU which is a 9800x3d from AMD. You should be able to get 140fps in CP2077 on ultra settings with a fast enough GPU based on the numbers you posted above.

Now I get it, it made sense. Thanks for the info!
