Guys, Is this WD internal drive safe to use?

I was copying folders when suddenly the copying speed went down to zero, even after a couple of retries.
Checking the drive on CrystalDisk shows the drive to be in 'caution'.

What should I do next?
The drive is out of warranty.
I have backed up important work files and disconnected the drive. I intend to use testdisk on it later and copy files from it.

Can the drive be continued to be used or is it very risky to do so?

Looking at the details, there are some 150 reallocated sectors.
That to me indicates a worn out surface.
You could try to reformat the drive using the WD data lifeguard utility.

Time to abandon the drive.
5400rpm is abysmally slow.
A 1tb ssd is vastly faster and a replacement might be $50.

Could you please guide me to where it says that in the info I shared?
I read that there were 12 bad sectors and couldn't find the 150 sectors info.

I would like to know how to read the disk scan numbers and what they mean. Could you please teach me or guide me to a resource I could learn from?

Would the utility make the drive usable or would it be better to abandon it? I was thinking i could use the drive for temporary data, but as copying to the drive is slow and/or incomplete at times, would the WD data lifeguard utility improve that?

Currently looking for 7200 rpm hdd.
Another 1 tb hdd crashed before this earlier this month, so I have to get 2 1tb drives. SSDs are expensive where i'm at as compared to hdds, and I'm ok with the slower speeds for now. I currently have a dramless ssd for booting windows, and use the hdds for files accesibility and usage.

Would dramless ssds be a better option than hdds of the same capacity?

The drive has 12 pending sectors.
Pending means - the drive doesn't know yet, it they are bad or not.
You resolve pending sectors by overwriting them.

This can be done with Victoria software.
Test and Repair with Remap option.

Thank you for this @SkyNetRising. Once the sectors in question are overwritten, will the drive be good to use and not show a 'caution' indication in crystaldisk etc? Or would it still be risky to use?

Pending sectors will be cleared.
Depending on success of overwrite operation - number of relocated sectors can increase.
If relocated sectors don't increase, then status will change from caution to good.

Thank you for the clear explanation @SkyNetRising. Will try it out and update as soon as possible.

Would it be better to remap on an empty drive? Also, would a sata connection be necessary instead of a usb one to do the scanning and remapping?

So Victoria managed to remap the sectors as seen below:

This was achieved after a couple of tries as I had to switch off the drive's mbr to make a successful recovery or I'd get 'access denied' errors during Victoria's remapping.
Switching off the mbr led to the drive being undiscoverable after the successful remapping in Win 10, even after enabling mbr in Victoria in the disk editor tab.

The drive was detected in boot and in disk management but showed up as unallocated. Had to format the drive to make it discoverable at the cost of loss of data. Good thing I had made a backup of the important files first before starting Victoria so that helped.

So Victoria says all the sectors have been remapped.
But yet Crystaldisk says 'caution' as seen below:

What should I do next? Should I do another remapping in Victoria? Is the drive in it's current state good to use, or should I not use it anymore.

You could try to reformat the drive using the WD data lifeguard utility.

Time to abandon the drive.
5400rpm is abysmally slow.
A 1tb ssd is vastly faster and a replacement might be $50.

Doing a short and long S.M.A.R.T test led to the message "One or more problems detected. Failed with error code : 7"

After turning mbr off/on, you have to reboot your pc.

It seems, previous 12 pending sectors have been fixed.
And there were not 12 but 251 pending sectors fixed.
There are still 4 pending sectors. These 4 - are new.

Repeat Victoria scan.
Number of pending sectors have to become zero.

Given the drive's issues other than yellow status in Crystal disk Info (i.e., actually slowing to at/near zero bytes transferred during reads or writes), I'd not trust it as anything other than a drive to practice your Linux DD, shred, scrub, and secure-delete/SRM proficiency with.

As 1 TB drives are about $20 new these days....well, you can guess the next logical step when economically viable!

I did reboot the pc after turning it on, but no dice. The drive continued to be undetected in windows and unallocated in disk management.

I tried it again and it repaired 1 of the 4 pending sectors..

Thanks fot your inputs @mdd1963 are hdds better than dramless ssds for a secondary drive for storage and as scratch disks used by apps like photoshop in a desktop setup?
 
SSDs are so inexpensive for typical 1 and 2 TB models that I now pretty just reserve spinning drives for bulk storage/archival of things where speed is not important (in fact, a pair of 12 TB WD Red Plus drives are inbound!); for active projects where data will be accessed fairly randomly, SSDs are orders of magnitude faster. (As for standard SATA SSD prices, I just ordered a 2 TB Crucial MX500 for $79, and got a Samsung 990 Pro 2 TB for $119; at those prices, I'd personally not mess with dramless just to save another $5-$10...)

Regardless of which you choose, if it is important,... have backups!
