Yes and yes, it will run Minecraft.

It depends on what you mean by "durable". Some laptops are specifically designed to rugged / durable which means they can operate in extreme natural environments and / or capable of withstanding rough handling like being dropped from an average table height without sustaining damage. These types of laptops are a bit more expensive than your average consumer laptop like the Acer you are interested in.

Can it play Minecraft? Yes, it can.


If you can afford a $500 laptop, then I recommend the following Acer which has an Intel Core i5-5200u CPU and a dedicated nvidia 940m graphics chip. The extra $50 will give you a huge increase in gaming performance.

There are two versions of the Radeon R6 (Kaveri) graphics core. The faster version is in the A10-7400p APU which performs at about the same level of the nVidia 730m which means it is less powerful than the more recent nvidia 825m. The slower version is in the A10-7300 and it's performance is less than the nVidia 720m which means it is also slower than the more recent nvidia 820m.

The nvidia 940m performs slightly better than the nvidia 840m and significantly better than the slower version of the Radeon R6 (Kaveri) graphics core.
