Is this motherboard outdated?

I've currently have the Asus H170 PRO GAMING. Im going to upgrade my pc with a i7 8700 and probably more.

My current specs:
Intel Core i5-6600
EVGA Nvidia GTX 1070 sc
Kingston A400 120GB
Toshiba DT01ACA100 1TB
Crucial Ballistix Sport DDR4 2400 C16 2x8GB
Asus H170 PRO GAMING

I have the budget if its going to be necessary, but still trying to save money.

Well you cant upgrade that motherboard past 7th gen Intels, since the 8700 is a 1151 (300) socket, not 1151. You could look for a used 6700/6700k or update your BIOS and get a 7700/7700k CPU and be more then fine.

I wouldn't call it outdated but it wont support an i7 8700. Only Z370, H370, and H310 will support intel 8th gen.

Yeah, i know its not supporting 8th gen. But besides that, what better with the new motherboards? And could you recommend one?

With the motherboards, nothing really besides more USB Type C ports, m.2 commonality and RGB stuff. Motherboard don't do anything in regards to performance. As far as upgrading to a 7700K that's something you'll have to decide, if you can find one for a good deal I would say go for it, but people tend to think used computer stuff is worth way more then it is right now. Right now the 7700k is roughly equivalent to the i5-8600K in gaming performance.
