Is this much POWER(watts) enough for i5, 980ti/1080 OVERCLOCKING?

Hi guys,

I'm about to build a new PC with an i5 6600k and the GPU will be a 980ti (MSI lightning edition) or it will be a 1080 (If it's better than 980ti)

So the problem is with the power supply. I'm having trouble choosing the suitable power needed for Overclocking.

Estimated wattage is 480watts. But, I've heard that having more power is good. So the problem is,

Will a 550w PSU will be enough? without any trouble at all!
And if it so, can you suggest a Power Supply (like evga/corsair semi modular will be okay) Lower the price I'll be happy. LOL

Expect that you gonna OC your CPU and VGA, so here are my opinions:

600W GOOD psu if you stick with 1 Graphic card setup (a little overkill, but just for sure can run all the OC components and led lighting in your case maybe) (remember, the EVGA 980ti kingpin required 2x8pins and 1x6pins, lol)

850W GOOD psu if you planing to upgrade later with another 1080 )), and if you gonna buy something like EVGA kingpin series, you have to find a power supply that support at lease 3 graphic cards tho, to got enough cable connect to your VGA lol.

I wont be SLI ing in the future. But there are the any 600w psu s from EVGA or Corsair?

you will need a quality 650w poweruspply( evga g2 gs) or any xfx (not xt), seasonic model

For overclocking? No. For running a non overclocked system I would say fine. But once you start changing the voltages on your CPU it will add power really quickly and then it will cause an overload. Get a quality supply from the likes of EVGA, Seasonic, XFX, etc. with a minimum wattage of at least 750W.
