Hi all,

Disclaimer: my first ever custom build/extremely novice PC user.

I'm wondering if anyone on here could advise me regarding a potential new gaming PC build. This will be my first custom PC and I truthfully have no idea what I’m doing. I’ve always used Intel boards so I have no idea how to navigate an AMD BIOS.

Here are the projected specs (updates may follow later):

Case: Montech Air 100 ARGB mATX

MB: Gigabyte B650M D3HP AX AM5 DDR5

CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 7600X

CPU cooler: Cooler Master 240mm AIO ARGB

RAM: Kingston Fury Beast 32GB DDR5

GPU: Gigabyte RTX 4070 Windforce OC V2

Storage:
Patriot P300 256GB M.2 NVMe PCIe 3.0 x4 (Boot Drive)
Kingston NV2 2TB M.2 PCIe 4.0 x4 NVMe SSD (Game Drive)

PSU: 750W Corsair RMe 80+ Gold Fully Modular

OS: Windows 11 Home (I plan to buy a USB copy from the MS store).

Questions/other notes:
I've seen reports that it is quite difficult to install W11 to the motherboard I plan to use (especially if it's an MS Store copy). In particular, it says that by disabling the CSM setting, the system would prevent the USB from being able to boot.

What drivers would I need to install?

What kind of BIOS protections are there to help recover from misconfiguration?

Would I need to update the BIOS to be able to use the AMD Ryzen 5 7600X or not?

What’s weird is when I had my 6800xt installed I would have to unplug it and plug in the igpu. Otherwise it worked fine. When I installed the 7900xtx I have now I never had that issue. So you may have that. But typically systems will recognize a gpu is installed and switch over to it.

You may be better off with the 1650 floor games though.

These benchmarks show how your GTX 1650 will perform with a 7600X, but you might find the iGPU in the 7600X sufficient for a few weeks until you buy a 4070, etc.

This graph shows the Relative Performance between the 7600X iGPU and a GT 1060 (slightly faster than your GTX 1650). As you can see, the GT 1060 is 346% compared to the 7600X iGPU. A lot will depend on what apps/games you use.

Try the 7600X on its own (without the GTX 1650). If it's not fast enough, plug in the GTX 1650. You probably won't need to update the nVIDIA drivers if you buy another nVIDIA card.

Installing Windows 11 on this system will NOT be an issue. Upon successfully installing Windows, install the chipset drivers directly from AMD, and the video drivers directly from Nvidia.

Leave the BIOS in its default settings and Windows 11 should install easily.

You can download Win 11 directly from MS and put on your own USB drive. You still need a valid license that you can purchase from a reliable source, like MS.

You shouldn't have to update the BIOS on the motherboard to use that CPU. You may choose to afterward, but that is easy as well.

I have created the installation USB using the media creation tool. Following this, I have downloaded the chipset, audio, WiFi and Bluetooth drivers and saved them to the same USB for installation during setup if required. Is this enough or is there more that should be installed. Link is here for reference: https://www.gigabyte.com/Motherboard/B650M-D3HP-AX-rev-10/support#support-dl

Also I will either use the antenna that comes with the MB or use a tp link usb wifi adapter for internet connectivity. Let me know of any potential complications with drivers.

hi all,

I am in need of some urgent advice regarding my new PC build. I am a fairly novice computer user and this is my first build. The current part list is below (however this is subject to change due to a potential issue):

Case: Montech Air 100 ARGB

Motherboard: Gigabyte B650M D3HP AX (potential change)

CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 7600X

RAM: Kingston Fury Beast RGB 32GB (2x16GB) 6000MT/s

Storage: Patriot P300 256GB M.2-2280 PCIe Gen 3.0 (Boot Drive, potential for removal from build - more details later)
Kingston NV3 1TB M.2-2280 PCIe Gen 4.0 (Game Drive)

GPU: Palit Dual GeForce GTX 1650 (this is the GPU from my old system which I will use temporarily until I can buy either a 4070 Super or one of the 50 series cards)

PSU: Corsair RMe 750W 80+ Gold (will be possibly removed)

Below is the current situation with the build:

I have discovered that the motherboard only has one M.2 slot which can fit 2280 dimension drives (I bought two of these drives so this will be a problem). To remedy this, I am considering getting the ASUS Prime B650 WiFi II board, which has two M.2-2280 slots.

Additionally, the PSU is also out of stock at the retailer I have purchased it from, so I am thinking about getting a Corsair RMe 850W instead to speed delivery.

Any advice would be appreciated. The order has already been placed and therefore this is a semi-urgent matter.

also, the PSU may be changed to the Corsair RMe 850W 80+ Gold PSU

The original mobo you listed has two slots. One under a heatsink, the other lacks a heat sink. Right next to each other. Both can accommodate a 2280 device.

I looked at the specs on the official website and it says that it has one 2280 slot and the other a 2580. I'd be grateful if this could be investigated further. Thanks

Can you also let me know what drivers I might need? I've got the audio, chipset, WLAN and Bluetooth drivers already on the installation USB ready. Should I just get them all (especially storage) just in case they are needed, or do M.2 drives not normally need another driver?

The chipset drivers and Windows itself will take care of the SSD.

The 2580 slot can accommodate multiple sizes of SSDs, including 2280. You just move the mounting post.

You should be good to go with your drivers. Proceed.
