I had an old Dell Latitude E5520 with 2gb of ram and was wondering if this ram would be compatible with my laptop if I replaced the old ram with this one

Yes, you can put max 4GB per dim (8GB total RAM).

Don't get rid of the 2gb stick, us it AND the 4gb stick for 6gb of ram. Your model should have 2 ram slots.
