Is this temperature for an i7-2600k ok?

Hello,

I just bought Battlefield 4 yesterday and when I played it my core temps went all the way up to 72C!

The Tcase for my CPU is 72C
The TJMax for my CPU is 98C

The 72C reading i got from SpeedFan measure the TJMax (if I am not mistaken), but I'm still worried that is it too hot...

Whenever I run any other game my temperature usually doesn't go above 65C... Only in Battlefield 4.

So my question is: is this dangerous?


My system specs:

i7-2600k 3.4GHz (no overclock)
8GB DDR3 RAM
Gigabyte HD 7970 OC Edition 3GB GDDR5
Windows 7 - 64 bit

The maximum Tcase temp ~72.72C
The maximum Tjmax temp ~105C

Read below details for the solution, if you go beyond the maximum limit:

You haven't overclocked your processor. And When you go beyond the maximum limit, then I think the stock cooler must be checked.

1) Remove the cooler and place it back again (Must make sure it is seated firmly as found in the manual, otherwise your CPU heat will increase and go beyond the expected temperate range).


2) If the problem still persists, then re-apply thermal paste.

3) If above two steps don't sort out your processor's temperature issues, then It's recommended to buy an aftermarket cooler.

So which one is it?

BattleField 4 is CPU Dependent and that's why most prefer AMD FX 8 Core Processor for this game.

Your temperature is normal when playing Battlefield. It won't burn your system.

Also, there is nothing wrong to reach the maximum temperature limit. Your PC is fine.

Update 1: Your processor would shut down itself when the temperature is not under favorable condition.

All right thanks! But can I just know why people prefer AMD processors? Intel is much more powerful...

There is always an indefinite fight between AMD FX and Intel Core Processors.

People wanted FX because -
1. They pay a premium for the performance i.e., they are lot of cheaper when compared to Intel's New Cores.
2. FX will work faster as it has good multicore performance, if they are deep into the multitasking, video editing, and 3D creation.
3. Games like battlefield 4 are CPU Dependent. Hence more core processors will be much effective. Where can they find processor with lot of cores? AMD FX says 'we do'.

People wanted Intel because -
1. almost 90 percent of PC games perform well in per-core performance in which INTEL is very fast and efficient.
2. even high-end games frames' consistency is widely observed only in Intel brands and not in AMD FX. -For an instance, R9 270X's performance drastically increases when used in Intel processor.
3. Pure gaming experience and less power consumption yet high priced.
