Is Triple-core AMD + GT 1030 okay for gaming on 1440x900 resolution?

Hello guys! I'd like to buy a budget tier gpu, like that gt 1030 thingy, in order to replace the current one, the hd 5450 from amd. The reason for budget-to-budget gpu swap is relatively low native resolution, 1440x900, which I don't wanna change to 1080p cuz it seems to be pretty fine to me. Is it weird that it could be paired with 3-core amd cpu in order to be used as a budget gaming rig? If it makes at least some sense, would it give me 30-40 fps in triple-A games like GTA V on mid settings?

Upgrading to a 1030 will not help at that resolution. Your cpu is the weakest link here as far as upgrading your system goes.
Save up for a new cpu(Ryzen 1200), motherboard(just about any B350 board), and ram(8gb). You can still use the old gpu with the new setup until you can afford a new one.

It's not that bad. Athlons are fairly easy to overclock, you can try that to squeeze some more performance, but for the games the GT 1030 is able to run smoothly the athlon wont represent a bottleneck in most cases.

I disagree. Given the modest capabilities of a 1030, his current CPU won't be much of a bottle neck.

Op didn't mention all the games they had in mind, but GTA V. That game is kind of a cpu hog, and definitely ram hungry(OP didn't state how much they had). It's not too keen on gpu resources. OP won't be running mid settings on that game(at least) by upgrading to a 1030. Plus, they're also running on 900p, which will demand a little more cpu muscle than 1080p does. That's got to account for something... at least as far as that game is concerned.

I won't deny that a 1030 is a nice bump up from their current gpu, but that also depends on the other games being played.

You just made me remember i was using some shitty intel graphics back in 2008 that didnt even supported T&L and when i bought a GT 21o in 2011 (which btw performs similar to the 5450), holy jesus crist if i say "extremely huge" upgrade i will come short. I almost cried and was as excited as a kid in christmas when i first opened it a and touched it. But now from a 5450 to a 1030 is almost as good.

And i agree, 4 GB of RAM will be okayish with SP but online will stutter to unplayable levels after a while so OP better have some good RAM. And yea the CPU is quite weak but believe me it runs GTA V decently.

Yes. Just don't run programs in the background such as Chrome. Also keep things out of your computer startup (use Autoruns, it is part of the free suite called Sysinternals from Microsoft).

Haha, I gamed on an Athlon II X3 and X4 and 5450...800x600 mostly. Hey, you do what you gotta do.

The 1030 will do fine at 900p. The problem is the Athlon II X3 or X4 will be a very big limitation in certain games. You'll know this because reducing settings to the lowest won't help framerate, and lowering resolution to 720p won't help in these games. To give you an example, when I upgraded the 5450 to a 650 Ti there were many games that were running great or at least playable at 720p if not 1080p. However, there were a few games where the framerate was slightly higher but nothing I did increased framerate more than that. Then I used MSI Afterburner to check usage and saw the CPU was maxed out on the game no matter what card I used.

Maybe I'd rather start saving up for G4560 and 1050/Ti? Or just a 1030 is pretty much enough?

Faster hardware is never a bad idea. A g4560 and a 1050ti will definitely be faster than a 1030 gt and your old AMD. When it comes to gaming performance, the 1050ti (in my opinion) is where the good cards start. You can game on a 1030, but a 1050ti will give you more consistent performance and at higher settings.

Well then. Thanks for helping with decision, guys. Saving up for that config instead!
