Hey all,

The RTX 3070 is definitely faster, but what's your target screen resolution ? Which MONITOR do you have ? And, what type of games do you usually play ?

Worth is something only YOU can determine.
Yes, a 3070 is a faster graphics card and your psu can support it.
If you play fast action games or run at higher resolutions, the upgrade is likely to be a good one.
But, take the time to verify that you can benefit from a stronger gpu.
Run this simple test:
Run YOUR games, but lower your resolution and eye candy.
This makes the graphics card loaf a bit.
If your FPS increases, it indicates that your cpu is strong enough to drive a better graphics configuration.
If your FPS stays the same, you are likely more cpu limited.

Have a hp 34x , 3440x1440

Monitor is a HP x34 with 3440x1440 res, usually play FPS and racing games plus others

I'm sorry but there's no way that the RTX 3070 will be able to run at 3440x1440. Video cards with only 8GB are already showing problems with 2560 x 1440, let alone 3440 x 1440. Video cards with only 8GB are also showing problems at 1080p with ray-tracing enabled.

While it would be a stark improvement on your RTX 2060, the RTX 3070 would still be wasted money.

There is some garbage naysayer generalisations going on this thread.

Not everyone games with all the bells and whistles on!

Whether it's worth it or not, is down the the OP. With a CPU fast enough to drive both cards easily, you can expect a big leap in performance from the 2060 to the 3070.

I do agree that the vram being limited (8gb) does play a factor above 1080p, but not nearly as much as some make out. Sure, some newer triple A games can devour vram, and 16gb is where most cards should be at. With that said, the OP can expect a good boost with all things remaining the same. The monitor is also Freesync-Gsync compatible, so possibly using g-sync to make things a lot smoother. And if performance suffers, they can lower one or two settings to ease the lack of ram. As is often proven in most games, Ultra settings don't offer much more than High settings visually, yet at a steep FPS cost.

The difference between 2560x1440 and 3440x1440 is about 15% (game dependant).

Defo a case to be made for Radeon 6xxx with higher vram at same price point. But practically any Nvidia 3xxx series (mid-upper range) will have far superior RT abilities.

Hi sin69sin. It's a somewhat tough position that you're in. On one-hand, in your situation I'd want a 12GB VRAM card, such as the RTX 4070. But on the other-hand, it might yield you only a 25% greater rasterization upgrade, for a 50% increase in price; from $400 for the 3070 to $600 for the 4070. I've read rumors that the soon-to-be-announced RX 7700 XT might be priced at $530. If true, perhaps it might be worth your time to wait and see if it's performance matches or beats the RTX 4070. Even if you're only interested in Nvidia, it's possible, although not likely, that they'll moderately lower their price once AMD announces the new card.

There is no way that I'd purchase a new RTX 3070, when used ones are selling below $300. To summarize, I'd either purchase a well priced used RTX 3070, or wait for the RX 7700 XT to hit the market, and consider purchasing a new model or a RTX 4070. But I would not purchase a new 3070. A used one offers the best value (performance per $) between all the choices that I've listed IMHO.
