Is upgrading my cpu + motherboard enough?

So I have a desktop PC right now with a core 2 duo, gts 250, and an old motherboard.
I would like to play Diablo 3, Wow, and league of legends and my budget is around $300.

Would it be a good idea to just pick up a mobo + i5 3370 (with ddr3 ram) if I want to be able to multitask better? (My current setup lags quite a bit with multitasking and I would like to add a second monitor to it as well) or am I in need of a larger scale upgrade? (I am also planning to upgrade the other components as I expand my budget).

Thanks!

a mobo and cpu upgrade would help you a lot. you can use your current gpu until you can get a new one.
if i were you i'd forget about the 2nd monitor at least for now. unless you really need it of course.

for me, if you have budget to buy a 2nd monitor, get a better gpu instead. i'd rather have a fast pc than 2 monitors with a slow pc. again unless if you really need 2 monitors

It would definitely help.

Are you planning on overclocking? Did you mean the i5 3570K?

If so, you can get the i5 3570K with a Z77 motherboard for around $300. But are you also in need of upgrading the RAM, depending on what you currently have.

Ivy bridge CPUs run 1333 or 1600 Mhz DDR3 RAM. You can get 4GB of cheap DDR3 1600 Mhz Ram for around $20-$25.

Any A10 APU will play the games you are expecting to play. The Integrated Radeon 7660D can even play latest games at low-medium settings , 1080p or below and give 30+ FPS. Do a Dual Graphics CrossFireX with a Radeon 6670 ( If you want to ) and expect even better performance ( Close to a Discrete Radeon 7790 or GTX 650Ti Boost ) That 8GB HyperX can handle multitasking with ease.
