Question Is upgrading my current rig with a used Ryzen 7 5700X3D for 170€ worth it?

So, these are my current specs:

CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 5600 (non-x)

GPU: RX 6650 XT

RAM: 32GB 3000Mhz

Currently playing at 1080p, but i would like to eventually upgrade to 1440p. I see a used R7 5700x3D for sale nearby at 170€, with my current CPU being sellable for 50-60€, would this be a worthwhile trade? I play a lot of CPU bound paradox games, but plenty of others like Cyberpunk, Ready or Not, Total War's, etc.

There is also the risk of the used CPU being in some way damaged, even tho the posting does not indicate so, but a new cpu would be 230€.

Any thoughts?

Up to you really. If you have CPU benchmarks for the games you play and the GPU won't hold you back, sure.

Hey there,

The price point seems about okay for a used CPU. It will give a boost in a lot of games, but not all.

You could look at some faster ram too. 3600mhz CL16, will give you another little boost and improve system latency.

Sadly no, this price i found is for a used unit, even with discounts a new one would be a lot more expensive. Could probably get a 5800 for 100€ but that's a even smaller jump from a 5600

The used market in Portugal is crap, people try to sell stuff at a 20€ discount from what they bought it brand new. Here's a general overview:

I also see a 5800x for 140€, how would that compare? WIth a higher clock speed would it be better in cpu bound games that dont make much use of all cores?

Half the ancient second hand CPUs I buy on eBay (for the equivalent of a few Euros) come wrapped in ordinary bubble wrap with no ESD protection. I've no idea how long they'll last, but they're cheap and for a 10 to 15 year old system I'm not too concerned.

ESD damage is insidious and may rear its ugly head 6 days later, 6 months, or 6 years. There's no easy way of telling unless you de-lid the processor and examine it under a scanning electron microscope. At 170€, I'm not sure I'd be prepared to take the risk. You've no idea how well (or badly) the CPU's been handled in the past.

I'd consider spending another 60€ for peace of mind and a full warranty. Unless a second hand CPU is Dead On Arrival, you'll be lucky to get more than a 30-day limited warranty.
