Yes many people will say don't if your only gaming but due to its 6 cores would it be worth it for not having to upgrade. I want to have a rig that will let me game from 2015-2020 with only upgrade like the graphics card. Though I thought that in the future games will use more cores and threads?

Solution
Even by 2020, there won't be any games that utilize 12 cores (6 cores + Hyperthreading), to the best of my knowledge. I would be VERY surprised.

A 4790K will last you 5 years for gaming, especially with its ability to overclock. The only time I recommend an X99 chipset is when you're doing heavy video editing, 3D animation or CAD programming.
