Is Xeon E5-2670 better?

Solution
I have an Intel S2600COE with dual E5-2670s. I have 32GB of RAM in it and a PowerColor Devil R9 390X and it runs amazingly well. It's not the best or most recent graphics card but I can run games like ARK at max settings at 50+ FPS at 1080P. The whole build cost me about $900 minus $500 that I got from selling a 2012 FX-8120 rig I had. Despite everything that people say, any FPS loss due to the lower clock speed is minimal and wouldn't exceed a 10FPS difference from the best gaming processor, which I think is the I7 6700K. If you're able to find an LGA-2011 motherboard at a good price I think you should go for it. I made my build a couple of months ago and have no regrets other than not getting a sound card, as my dual socket board...

I saw some benchmark results and they look fascinating. I am planning to order a used Xeon E5-2670 through AliExpress for $90-100

Dang! Thats cheap! By all means get the Xeon then. Just make sure you have a X79 board with it.

EDIT: Wait, what are you planning to use the Xeon for? If its for gaming I don't recommend it, but for 3D and video editing work or any cpu-intensive program, go ahead.

Cpu itself does not cost much. However find a compatible motherboard may not be easy.

I'll be using it for Gaming, video editing, live game streaming and photo shop.

I currently own Fx 4100 and Fx6100

But since the last Intel CPU that I used was Pentium IV I do not know much about their processors, so I thought it would be better if I consult with experts like you. :)

It won't perform that well in games (other than well-threaded ones) but for your other tasks you will see a MASSIVE increase over your FXs.

what games are not well threated???? :??: I was hoping to see performance boost in everything over my current CPUs

You probably will, but a Xeon is not meant for gaming and it has a lot of weaker (2.6GHz) cores at a 32nm process. For streaming and editing it will work great.

FX-4300 is 2 core/4 thread and very weak
FX-6300 is 3 core/6 thread and slightly better but still weak.

It says something about Turbo Boost of 3GHz on all 8cores, what is that then???

for the price, it is not a bad choice at all, as long as you can find a good motherboard.

Turbo Boost means, when you have some spare cores, those cores will be used to "help" other working cores, and have a boosted frequency. for example, you are doing something that can use only 4 cores with 2.6 Ghz, other 4 cores will not be used, Turbo Boost then can boost those 4 working cores to 3.0 Ghz

Lol you are making it sound as if the motherboard is really difficult to be found. 😀

So if boost enabled is it gonna outperform my Fx6100 in gaming and multi tasking?

In multi tasking for sure.

For gaming I can't be sure but it will probably outperform the FX. Especially in well threaded games like BF1.

I guess, I should wait for sometime and buy something more powerful. Not worth it if it cant run a game properly. :/

Why not,his benchmarks speek for themselves.

For under $100 is it a good deal. You could always disable hyper threading,8 cores will be more than enough. You also could, looking at the overclock capability of the motherboards, link all cores together so they would all run max turbo speed of 3.3ghz,it needs a good cooler to do that. The max turbo speed is mostly hindered by too high temps.

If the motherboard doesn't cost alot of money do you imo have a good cpu with this one.

I got Antec A30 Cooler Radiator

Thanks a lot for being patient with me. I guess I am going to drop the idea to get a Xeon processor because it doesn't seem to be happening. Anyway here's my last question what If I switch to Intel(After almost 10+years) Core i3 6100 will I be seeing performance boost over my current Processors(Fx4100 and Fx6100)? Like I said above I will be using it for Gaming, Live Game Streaming, video rendering and some Photoshop.

Thanks in advance for your helpful suggestions.

Except maybe for gaming is imo the Xeon the best choice for what you want to do with your pc.Especially looking at live streaming and rendering.
Although it seem that the i3 will do streaming at 720p,but i don't know what your plans are.It wil give an upgrade path to an i5 or even i7 though.Your current cooler also does work with this one,for the xeon would you need a new cooler as well.

Yeah probably later but I got this cooler just now so my first priority is to get a better setup.

Solution

Thanks but I have changed my mind and it's motherboard seems to be a trouble for me. Getting an i5 6400 now.
