Issue connecting cd drive up

Right, so yesterday I tried connecting up a cd drive up to my pc using a sata data cable only to find that I needed a sata power cable aswell which I dont currently have. This brought me to my next issue of where to connect my sata power cable to as there's nowhere to plug it in on my power supply. My build is on my profile

If you do not have a sata power connector on your psu there is an alternative , you can get a molex to sata power adaptor cheaply pretty much anywhere , this is what you need ,

sorry m8 try it again i had to edit it , if it doesnt work again type into google images molex to sata power , that is what you need

No m8 , if your psu does not have sata power connectors on it , it will have 4pin molex connectors on it , if you use an adaptor to plug into the molex power that comes out of your power supply you can then plug into the sata power on your cd drive

no. you're misunderstanding, nothing can be plugged into my power supply, that's the issue I'm having here and why I listed my build of my pc so people would be able to check and understand that part of it.

do you have leads coming out of your power supply with 4pin molex on them?

your power supply no matter what sort should have 4pin molex or sata power connectors on the leads that come out of your psu

the power for your cd drive will be connected to a sata power connector from the lead on your power supply not your motherboard , if your leads do not have a sata power connector on them then you will need an adaptor for the 4pin molex power to a sata power connector
You need either sata or molex power for your hard drives or ssd and cd or dvd drive to work so your power supply has to have them

Right, so after attaching up my cd drive I now have no display. cd drive works fine by the way

glad your cd drive works now , did you bump any leads when attaching the power to you cd drive , does your graphics card hav a power lead going to it, is the fan/fans on your card spinning ?

i think the wires might of touched a couple of things but I doubt that'd be the issue would it? And I'm not too sure on the fans but I can check quickly

Edit: fans on my graphics card are working perfectly so it's not them.

is the lead that comes out of the back of the card to your monitor secure , you may have pulled it out a bit if you moved your case

my monitor and graphic's card aren't connected though

hmmm , so where is your monitor plugged into , is it on the back of the motherboard

sorry, I had another spazzy moment, they are connected I was just thinking something else just now. It was a loose wire and everything's sorted now, thanks for the help also 😀

only one thing left to find and thats a windows 7 key :/

do you have an original windows 7 disc ?

yeah, but I've used the code more than 3 times which is the max it can be used but I don't have £60 or whatever to get a new key at the minute 🙁

if you have a windows 7 original disc the windows key will be in the on a sticker inside the packaging ,
if you bought the computer from elsewhere then the sticker should be stuck on the case somewhere

That is no problems contact microsoft on the phone , there will be a number to call that will appear when you try to activate windows , explain to them it is a new build and your old pc died or something like that , as long as you are not using that on more than one computer they will give you the activation codes to get windows working , is a simple process
