Right, so yesterday I tried connecting up a cd drive up to my pc using a sata data cable only to find that I needed a sata power cable aswell which I dont currently have. This brought me to my next issue of where to connect my sata power cable to as there's nowhere to plug it in on my power supply. My build is on my profile :)

Solution
No m8 , if your psu does not have sata power connectors on it , it will have 4pin molex connectors on it , if you use an adaptor to plug into the molex power that comes out of your power supply you can then plug into the sata power on your cd drive
when you try to activate windows you will have the options ( activate on internet or activate by phone )
pick phone option , they will give you a set of codes , write these down ,then call the number there give them the codes and they will give you the activation codes to get it working

Right, so upon starting my pc I have 3 boot options, the first and second are called windows 7 but the first only takes me to a version of widows 7 ultimate n that is unactivated and I dont particulary want to use anyway. The second when selected says something along the lines of insert windows 7 installation disc, select language and then next. I don't have the foggiest how to select languages though. And finally, the third one is linux which I have no idea what it's doing there. Would prefer not to have to remove my hard drive to sort this out aswell, thanks 😛

boot into which windows the first or second, and how exactly? As I said I selected the second one but it takes me straight back to the "insert installation disc" bit. I didn't put windows on my hard drive in the first place either. Long story which I cant be asked going into lol

why did you need a windows 7 key , did you do a new operating system install , i am trying hard to figure out why you have multiple windows 7 operating systems and why your pc does not work , you originally had cd drive not working then display problem and then you needed windows 7 key because you activated it three times ,now you are telling me you have multiple windows 7 on your hard drive i am confused seriously ? Was your computer working ?
Have you tried to do a new windows install ? , Why can you not get into your operating system ? Do you have an original windows 7 disc or liecense ?

Right, basically when my pc was first built I put everything into it, did the wiring and gave my friend the hard drive to install windows 7 on. Apparently he put on an unactivated version of window's that I don't have a key to activate it with, another window's 7 that looks like it wasn't even installed properly and ubuntu is the same. My friend being useless as he is though kept on making up excuses when I tried to arrange to go and pick it up and ended up holding onto the pc for over 6 months until it got to the point where I told him I'd get the police involved if he didn't return it. So I have basically no clue as to what he did to it myself and don't want to start all over again with it either.

you need to buy a copy of windows 7 and do a clean install by formating your drive during the windows 7 installation and thereby removing all these other versions and installing a new one.
You will have the key on the windows 7 you buy, i cannot supply you with a windows 7 key nor help with unlicensed and incorrectly installed windows , buy a copy of windows 7 and i will help you, untill then there is nothing further i can do
