I recently changed my CPU from an i5-6600k to an i7-7700k. But since I upgraded I get performance issues like when I start a game I get about 10 fps then after a minute or two it then goes to 60fps again. But then it will drop down to 10 fps.

My PC specs are:
I7-7700k
Z170-P - Motherboard
Nvidia GTX 1060 6GB - Graphics Card
16GB DDR4 - Ram
1TB Hard drive

I don't think it is a temperature issue as the temperature measures at 60 degrees when playing which I think is the in the temperature range of an i7 -7700k CPU. Also my motherboard is compatible I just had to flash the BIOS in order to get the CPU to register with the motherboard. What can I do to fix this issue?

I assume you didn't reinstall your OS?

Shouldn't be necessary if all you change is the CPU - but I would suggest doing that, if issues occur.

Check your Windows Updates though - did anything else update/install around the same time?

If the only variable is the CPU, I'd look to a clean OS install.

How exactly would I do that as Im not exactly sure.

How to do a clean install of the OS (Windows 10). Also iif I were to do this what are the issues would I lose all my data on my harddrive?

As I mentioned, check to see if you had an Windows Updates installed around the same time - there may be another cause for the issues.

If all that checks out, then a clean OS install may make the most sense.

Yes, a clean OS install would wipe the primary drive. You should back up any data you cannot recover (or games you'd rather not redownload etc)

Create bootable media here (you'll need a USB flash drive, 8GB minimum I think.... might be 4GB)
https://www.microsoft.com/en-ca/software-download/windows10

*When clean installing, it's a smart idea to disconnect any secondary drives to avoid any accidents in deleting partitions or directing where to install.

Then (once data is backed up!) you:
1. boot from the USB drive (typically F8 is the prompt required for a one-off override)
2. follow the prompts
3. select where to install / delete existing partitions
4. follow more prompts
5. skip when asked for a key (if Windows 10 is currently installed/acitvated, it'll reactive once back online).

Its still the same as it was before

What else could be causing the issue? I'm also not convinced that I did install Windows correctly as when I tried to install Windows on to a USB drive. It would finish the download then begin verifying files but it would stop saying there was an issue. This caused the USB to become corrupted. So not sure why it is doing that. So instead I tried to update my current version of Windows but that didn't seem to help. Why is the USB getting corrupted?
