Hi,

I'm in need to spin up vm on my desktop using vm workstation 12 pro.

I am getting a VT-x is disabled error when starting up the VM.

I have double check in bios that VT is enabled and as the error message says disable "trusted execution"

MOBO is running on the newest available firmware version F10B

Windows 10 64bit with i7-3770K (which supports VT-x)

Anybody got any ideas what else can I try?

As a last resort I've tried to put bios to default settings but still without luck.

Thanks in advance for any advise.

PS. Update - Task manager shows Virtualization disabled for some reasons. So I'm not sure if there is a firmware bug on mb or win10 combination?

I've also followed the instruction on how to disable hyper-v without luck. Check it out in case it works for you.
https://superuser.com/questions/1153470/vt-x-is-not-available-but-is-enabled-in-bios

There are three common culprits for the type of error the user is seeing:

  • VT-x is not enabled in the BIOS
  • The CPU doesn't support VT-x
  • Hyper-V virtualization is enabled in Windows
Since the user already eliminated the first two possible culprits, the next step is to open a command prompt as administrator and run the following command:

dism.exe /Online /Disable-Feature:Microsoft-Hyper-V

Lastly, I've downgraded my firmware(from 10b beta to f9) and virtualization started to show enabled. So had to be some firmware issue.
