Hello all,

UPDATE:

I believe I figured it out. In my frustration, I made sure I had all the latest drivers, chipset, Bios, etc.

After updating those, I realized Nvidia recently updated the GeForce Experience and when I got the latest driver not all that long ago, I updated GeForce Experience.

I went into the game settings itself and I noticed that some "optimized" settings I don't turn on were on. After adjusting those, my temps and FPS are back to normal and better than ever.

What the hell Nvidia?! It never occurred to me my game settings changed. duh. Such a rookie. smh

Original blathering:

I am going to do my best to explain the situation thus far. I apologize there is a lot to explain here:

I have a Ryzen 3900X, MSI MEG X570, and a 2070 Super in a Phanteks P600s. I have an Enermax ETS-T50 Axe. The fan on the cooler seemed to be breaking as it was beginning to rattle. I play a lot of Overwatch and I have the game options set to display FPS, GPU Temp, etc. With the fan rattling, I would move it to stop it from making noise and I wanted to see what the temps would be like. I always watch the TMP display when playing OW and generally speaking, I was getting average of 66C. I probably maxed out at peaks of 73C. These are well within range.

Enermax told me a replacement fan kit was like 30 USD, so I thought - screw it, let me just get a different cooler. I wanted a Noctua NH D15 anyway, so I bought one.

Cut to me installing the NH D15 and seeing great CPU temps but my GPU started climbing to 83 when gaming. I gathered with the larger cooler the GPU temps might increase, but 83 from 66/73 seems like a lot to me.

I tried with the side panel open and temps stayed more around 75C for the GPU.

I never had fan software. That was controlled by the BIOS. I honestly don't recall if I had a fan curve set in there. But I installed MSI Afterburner and the Experience as well as setting curves with Argus (not at the same time obviously) and I was able to keep it at 75C or so with the side panel closed.

Out of curiosity, I wanted to see how much air the Noctua was choking so I put the Enermax back into my PC. Now when I play it doesn't take long for temps to jump from 60 to 77. I mean less than 10 minutes.

I have been playing Overwatch on high graphics settings on a 144mhz at 2560 X 1440. I usually don't bother with FPS higher than 150-170 which is what I average.

The one thing I want to mention is I let the processor cool too long for the first switch out and the CPU came out of the socket. I got it off of the Enermax so I could install the NH D15, but it took me to set up. I didn't pay much attention and I surely didn't save anything and exit.

I ran a stress test on the GPU and I passed with 3d Mark at 98%.

So I am left with a couple of possibilities - One, something is wrong. Two, I am completely off base in that I was getting 66C average prior to changing out the Noctua. I watch my temps all the time because i am rather anal about it. I could definitely miss small spikes, but extended periods of 5-10+ degrees would not get by me.

I am lost. I am back to the original configuration, but it is definitely running a hotter GPU now.

Here are some horrible pics of the setup for references. I am not quite sure what changed.

For clarity, I have 3 Phanteks 140 MM case fans in the front as intake.

Someone, please explain this madness to me because I am stumped and how to troubleshoot the sucker. Thanks!

Is your fan in the back pushing air in? If so you need to turn it around since you are trapping the GPU in hot air! It is hard to see in the picture.

No, I definitely have it set to blow out. You actually just made me check and I second-guessed myself too. lol

I really should update this post because I figured it out last night and stumbled into it during an epiphany.
