Alright so I've been having an ongoing issue lately with my computer and will try to be as thorough as possible, but let me know if you need more info. I really want to get this fixed as it is really worrying me.

Specs:
OS: Windows 10
Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-990FXA-UD3
CPU: AMD FX - 8150 Eight Core Processor
RAM: 24 GB
C-Drive: 224GB free / 465GB
E-Drive: 943GB free / 1.81TB
Power Supply: Corsair GS800
Graphics Card: NVIDIA GTX 760

The Issue:
So recently (like earlier today) I was playing a new game and my computer just randomly out of the blue shut off right in the middle of the game with no warnings or anything. My case quite large has really good air flow and upon putting my hand near the openings the only bit of heat I could feel was just a little bit around the area of the CPU, but nothing that would really warrent it overheating. This happened before over the summer and it was somewhat solved by taking my friend's air compressor to the whole dang thing (even though it seemed very little dust came out). Could this be an overheating problem? I have three external fans that all work well, plus my CPU and GPU fans inside. I also have a fan on my power supply but I'm not sure how often it is actually used.. Seems to be off most of the time. Is that a problem?

I'd also like to take the chance to note that on games I play whose recommended setting are far below my PC's ratings, I still have to turn down some of the graphics to get decent FPS.

I have a feeling that one or both of these problems might be related to my Motherboard or CPU because those are really the only components I haven't touched since I made this computer three or four years ago.

Thank you so much for your time.

Sorry to hear your baby is sick 🙁...Stress test and check temps with something like CPU-Z if it turns off during the stress test there's your problem. If not it's not your cooling. Run it for 24 hours or until it overheats. If it overheats we can troubleshoot that. Also do you have an OC on it?

Usually overheating causes the CPU to thermal throttle and you have an extreme loss of FPS, the computer doesn't totally shut down. No game crash to desktop? No BSOD? Just a total shut down? If it is a total shut down out of the blue without system freeze, or BSOD it sounds more and more like hardware failure. With the computer not freezing and totally shutting itself down it sounds like your PSU may be failing and powering down the entire computer.

I guess if you want to rule out any software or OS problem you could always do a clean install of Windows 10. Upgrading from Windows 7, and 8 leaves a lot of residual stuff on the new OS. Doing a clean install of Windows 10 would guarantee you have no software or OS problems. If after clean install you still have issue it has to be hardware related and with total shut down I would focus on the psu first. To do clean install go to:
https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10
Download tool now- and run - choose create installation media for another computer- use a USB or DVD- after completion reboot computer and boot from USB or DVD you just created and do a full format (delete all files and programs on computer) and reinstall Windows 10- of course you want to back up all your important files first.
