issuse with grapics card

Hey guys hopefully someone here can help me out, I just built my first PC last night booted it up and everything went well the only issue I'm having is with my graphics card, I installed it to the motherboard properly, everything is lit up and plugged into the correct spot. The issue
I'm having is I can only get an image to display from the VGA or HDMI of the motherboard, I get nothing when I'm plugged into the graphics card. After the initial boot I put the driver disk in and installed the software and still I get nothing. The graphics card is a MSI Twin Frozr GTX 970, the motherboard is a Gigabyte Z97X-Gaming 5 G1 gaming motherboard. Thanks in advance for any help you can provide me with, like I said this is my first build so I'm hoping it's a beginners mistake.

That would be correct. Also, PCI-E, not PCI. They are two different things.

Yes, reseating (removing and inserting again) the card would be my suggestion. All the evidence is pointing to the possibility that the system is not detecting it. Also, make sure your 6-pin PCI-E power connectors are in all the way. There are tabs on them that should click in...
