Many years ago, after using many consumer grade laptops, I moved into a Dell Precision M6800 and never looked back. They are heavy, bulky, etc, but none of that matters to me. I need as close to desk top performance as I can get, and I move the machine probably 100x/yr to various sites, and it is super helpful to have real horsepower in the field.
I pretty much planned to stick with Dell on an upgrade but I am seeing where Dell may not be top dog as much, but I take more things into consideration like stability, robust design, rugged, support, parts, etc. I was simply blown away that after years, I could just get online and grab a speaker kit and keyboard for my laptop. that would never happen with a lesser machine.
I want to clarify that I just can't afford new so I try to get as close as I can. Currently looking at 7750-7760. I remember when I got my current machine, it was a MAZE of features to shop, including monitor, CPU, GPU, backlit, etc, etc. My primary work that can get demanding is De CAD/CAM work. 3D softwares need a good machine.
I would prob buy a 20" laptop if they ever made one! I have looked a bit with MSI and such, but I really think gamers get stuck in 'game land' and only chase a spec. What I cherish with my Dell is it has been nearly bullet proof other than plugging with lint and needing a teardown just to get to all the coolers. I ask the world from this thing! Run it in temps of 120F and down to 40F. I am sharing that because that is part of my selection process, not just "this CPU is 9ms faster".
Help me make a sound decision to shop for! Obviously I run them for years, and no intent to retire the current Dell. It's a brick that keeps going!
