I need to replace a 32GB SSD on the Dell XPS 8900 Desktop with a a Samsung EVO 1 TB SSD. I'm a newbie with this material, and I'd appreciate a detailed recommendation about such installation. Thanks

Solution
When you startup the pc, watch the messages at the bottom of the screen, it will tell you which key to press to enter Setup/Bios.

Make a backup if you dont have a recent one.

Install magician and create your bootable clone disk

While in windows, enter iRST and disable drive caching/acceleration.

Reboot into the bios
- set the SATA ports to AHCI. They should be in Raid mode.
- Save, Exit, Power down, & remove the ac plug.

Open the unit & replace the ssd with the new one. Leave the unit open for now.

Power up and enter the bios.
- Verify the SSD is detected
- If it is, set it as the primary boot drive
- Save & exit

Boot into your Cloning software and clone the HDD to the SSD.
(during boot, press the F-key that corresponds to "select boot device"/"boot Options" at the bottom of the screen. Then select your device.)

Power off & unplug.
- Swap the sata cables between the HDD and the SSD . IE: put the one from the hdd onto the ssd & vice versa.

Power up and see if you boot into windows
- if successful, run magician and enable Rapid mode.
- Put the side cover back on your pc.

Hi, popatim

Thanks for a detailed instruction. Though I've a further question related to your advice (and my lack of competence): you mentioned the "reboot into the bios", but how to reboot into the bios?
Thank you.
