My PC issues will never end, will they?

So I've been AFK for no more than 10 minutes. I come back to my PC and notice that neither my left nor right mouse buttons work. Well, I restarted my PC, thinking this may have been some sort of a glitch.

After a reboot, mouse buttons started working again... buuuut neither the laser nor the DPI LED indicators were. This is very odd, and it almost appear to be a hardware malfunction. I have tested it on my laptop and was getting the same results. Interestingly enough, DPI LEDs DO light up during system boot.

Any ideas how to troubleshoot this, or is my mouse dead?

Tested with Win 7 Home Pro / Win 10 Pro

I have. I've driven to my mother's house to "borrow" a gaming mouse I once gave her (she's a gamer, too; how cool is that?).

Anyway, other mouse did work. The gaming mouse that appears to be failing used standard Windows drivers with software for macros etc.

Surprisingly enough, this is the exact 2nd mouse of this type I've had; the first lasted me 4 (!) years, where I decided to finally give it a rest after my cat decided to push it from my desk. Going off the topic here, but the scroll wheel died, nothing else.

If the hardware on the mouse died, and by the looks of it something got fried (though, I had no idea the USB voltages could do that to a mouse), should the LEDs and the otpical laser even light up briefly during the system boot? Could it be possible that the USB cable on the mouse is defective?

Sadly I am aware of that. It's just the fact that I really got used to that mouse design. But now, having just had this mouse for maybe 5 months (and used it only for 3 or so), I'm guessing I'll try to RMA the sucker to get a new one. I will definitely not pay for another one if this is the kind of issue I can expect from a later manufacturing date.

Sounds like a plan!
Good Luck!
