Question I've been sold a fake 7800X3D ?

Imgur is over capacity as usual.

Edit, loaded.

The one on the right PCB is way too dark. Maybe it's the angle but everything on the IHS looks too dark too.

The one on the left the shade of blue is off. Also no glue on the capacitors.

Both are missing caps around the entire die.

Edit again: Why are you posting a screenshot from a video that means absolutely nothing? W/E goofball YT video this is from, bith look fake.

Take a picture of yours, without that nobody can help you.

The one on the right is a working 7800x3d. I have taken the photos. It not a screen shot.
The real one on the right just looks a bit darker on the photo.

It was second hand from a clearance auction company John Pye that are now asking for a report as to why it's fake. Does any one in the UK know someone that can do this?
I use john pye regularly and often spot wrong cpu's in advertised boxes but this is particularly bad! Getting stuff returned to them is a nightmare although if you keep pushing I have had them take stuff back where it has been damaged or not as described. Can take a while though!

Did the cpu get installed out of interest which was the trigger for realising it was fake? Or was the cosmetic difference what made you realise?

Installed and did not boot at all and I just by coincidence came across the video in my original post. Checked my CPU and it's was the same. Luckily I had access to a working real one too which helped.

As mentioned it is very difficult and laborious to get things returned to John Pye. In the my invoices section of the site it retains the images from the original Lot. I would download these and attach when raising a case with them alongside the images you have taken of the cpu next to a valid one. Take screenshots etc of the lot details where it explicitly states it was a 7800x3d.

Be prepared for a fight but keep pushing with them mentioning trading standards etc. It is likely on this occasion that they didn't know and I doubt any malfeasance

I'd not heard of John Pye Auctions but I suppose you can find a few bargains. Thank's for the "heads up" that returns can be tricky. Perhaps I'll stick to eBay for second hand parts. They seem to be on the buyer's side when things aren't as described. Shame about eBay's new charges for buying from private sellers.

I buy new CPUs from eBuyer, Box, Scan, Overclockers, etc. I'd probably risk direct from Amazon too.

John Pye is quite big in the UK. Originally based out of Nottingham but nationwide now. A lot of the electrical items are from returns and shop closures etc. You can grab some great bargains on there. I recently bought a corsair Link 360mm titan cooler and 10 Link RX 120mm fans from them and they work perfectly. The cooler was missing the usb c to usb 9 pin header cable but I grabbed one for a few quid on amazon. I got it all for a fraction of the cost of new. I deemed fans and a cooler low risk.

I personally wouldn't buy motherboards or cpu's off there though as i like the warranty and as you mentioned Scan and Overclockers are my go to places for this stuff.

I feel the OP's situation is particularly unfortunate though as John Pye will have thought the Cpu was what it said on the tin. Whilst they are a pain to get things returned it can be done. I have had furniture returned when it arrived with issues although I feel this situation is a little more complex to explain and will require evidencing to a much higher degree. Some of it I feel they will not even understand but if it can be taken to a stage of money back then I would deem that a success
