I've broken my router - no default gateway

Hi

I recently changed my ISP and got a new, much better router than my Buffalo Airstation WZR-300HP, so I decided to use the old Airstation as a bridge.

Following some on-line instructions I changed the IP address of the Airstation, failed to create a bridge, but now I can't get back into the router to reset it.

ipconfig is not showing a default gateway.

Is there anyway I can get back into the router or reset it?

Thanks for the response, but there is no external reset. The only reset option listed in the manual is from inside the firmware.

Firstly click > start > run and type services.msc and make sure DHCP client is set to automatic and the status is started.

Then open a command prompt and type the below then restart your computer and see if that fixes it.

netsh winsock reset catalog

Regards Joe.

Hi Joe

No luck. I have connected the router to several different machines, so I'm sure the fault (the problem I created) is with the router.

No response. The IP I changed the router to was 192.168.0.23, but I have tried all variations on that from 0 to 25 without success.

I wasn't really paying attention to what I did as I didn't think the result of my experimentation would be irrevocable, but I must have turned something pretty vital off.

I'm not sure I'm understanding this.

tracert [any web adress] returns "unable to resolve target system name" - no internet connection so as expected

tracert 192.168.0.[any number] returns "1. 192.168.0.3 reports: Destination host unreachable"

tracert 192.168.0.3 returns "1 <1ms <1ms <1ms 192.168.0.3 Trace complete"

The address 192.168.0.3 doesn't connect.

Is there likely to be some way of resetting the router if I open it up?

What Kewlx25 said.

You need to be on the same subnet with the same subnet mask as the device, and physically connected to the port with the interface(IP) on that port. Then you just bring up a browser and type in the IP address for the device to bring up the web GUI. You can leave all the other fields blank in your Network Interfaces fields.
Static IP needs to be 192.168.0.X, subnet mask 255.255.255.0 I believe if the device is on 192.168.0.X. Don't pick the same address.

You can't connect to things on another subnet, they don't listen to you. A subnet is the first 3 numbers in an IPv4 Address. You need a gateway to bridge subnets essentially.

Brilliant. Thank you. There amount of times I looked for it - maybe I should have put my glasses on!

For the sake of my own dignity I feel I should point out the pin-reset was hidden under the foot/stand of the unit and there are another two holes that look like pin-resets that do nothing.

I may be posting questions on setting up the bridge in the near future as it's not going as planned.
