I've lost sound on laptop

I've lost the sound on my laptop again. I've got windows 8 on a Samsung notebook. I noticed when trying to watch youtube. I lost it a few months ago and I managed to get it back via the device manager. Last time I disabled the high definition audio, the laptop then restarted and I then saw a pop up asking me to solve problem with sound, which did solve the problem. This time the laptop doesn't restart automatically, so I restarted the laptop manually but the popup asking me to solve sound doesn't appear. I even did a system restore but still no sound on youtube. I'm stumped! Does anyone know how I can get the sound back? Thanks.

Would it work if instead of disabling sound I deleted sound in the device manager. I've just read that if I do this the laptop will search and reinstall it. I'm just worried that if I delete sound my laptop may be unable to restore it? Also what about the ad I've seen on this site for a pcfix to resore sound by downloading the free tool. Thanks.
