.jar files dont work in windows 10

I have been looking for help for a while now but nobody seems to have the same predicament that I have. any time I download a file my computer treats it weirdly, specifically .jar files. my computer makes me chose an app to open every .jar file, I have adobe and java and it hasn't helped at all. i have tried to change it to a .zip and extract the files that way but it usually screws up the files. I have looked around many forums and nothing has helped me. long story short, I cant run anything I download.

I am specifically trying to mod Minecraft, when I install launchers or download files they don't behave the way they should. installers just sit as unusable .jar files instead of applications and files are unable to be read by Minecraft.

adobe and java have nothing to do with opening a jar file. changing it to a zip file will not fix it. only specific programs can open a jar file as it is not a common compression format. windows is prompting u to choose a program because you do not have a correct program to open it.

I recommend WinRAR but there are a few other programs that can do it.
