Java network issues

For some reason, on my wired internet connection (ethernet cat 5), my computer does not properly communicate with java applications. My connections on java applications are slow. Anyone know how to prioritize or manage connections on my desktop? Also does anyone know how to check my network card, and/or how to see if it is faulty.

I think you are mis-diagnosing the problem. Are you having any other network issues??

With Java stuff I usually solve the problem by downloading the latest plug-in, update my browser etc fixes it.

I fixed all network issues, by calling isp, replacing modem. I'm certain it's a computer problem, causing me to lag etc.
