Question Just a little question about molex to 8 pin

i recently got a rx 580 2048sp 8gb version
i used my 350w power supply
i underclocked and undervolted the gpu to the maximum amount
i used a molex to 8 pin gpu and recently the black cable on the adapter got cut . when i plug it in my gpu and turned on my pc it worked! idk what happened can someone explain?

btw. my gpu was using only 40w maximum

Those types of adapters are never recommended by experienced/knowledgeable users. They are often very poorly made and can lead to catastrophic failures.

If you look at the adapter you showed in the picture, there is a bit of redundancy between the two Molex connectors and the PCIe connector. Damage to one of the black wires may be mitigated by that redundancy.

However, that puts a heavier load on the working part of the adapter and could lead to an overload on that connector.

You would be be advised to get a proper PSU in this system. One with the recommended wattage and proper connectors.
