PC games crashing a lot

For the past year and a half or so, every game I have played so far has crashed or consistently crashes. I only get this while playing games. In every game, It freezes for a few seconds, and then goes to desktop, sometimes with an error message explaining the crash but most of the time it doesn't. I was able to get Halo Infinite running well for a while without crashing but I changed 3 settings recently and it started crashing. I changed the 3 settings back and still crashed. The crashes slowly got better and I haven't crashed again for a while now. However, other games still crash pretty frequently. Sometimes I can go a whole day or 2 or 3 without crashing, and sometime it will crash every 30 minutes to an hour or so. The games run fine aside from the crashing. I was thinking about getting a new GPU but honestly I am happy with the 1080ti performance aside from the crashing.

I have spent way too many hours online looking for fixes and I'm hoping someone could walk me through some diagnostics tests I could do to help figure out what the problems is.

Here is my parts list: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/kLJLkJ

I did a windows memory diagnostics test and no error detected

Heaven benchmark 4.0 results: directx11 1920x1080

* FPS: 278.6
* Score: 7019
* quality: high
* tessellation: disabled

Notes:

* Most of the time all I have running along side the game is discord on my other monitor.
* games that have crashed: Halo Infinite, Delta Force, Marvel Rivals, Baldur's Gate 3, Monster Hunter World, Civ 6.
* I have 1 intake fan on the front of PC at the bottom, and on in the back behind the CPU cooler and that's it,
* Delta Force crash said "faulty application path"
* When playing marvel rivels, my GPU usually sits at about 84-85 degrees.

Thanks in advance!

Run tm5 anta777 completely; run furmark2 for two hours; run prime95 cpu test for two hours. Done these tests during your lunchtime, check the status when you are back😉
If all these tests turned out to be passed, I'll suspect your PSU.

Hi There,

In my opinion you should start from basics, what I mean exactly is:

- clean the PC inside thoroughly from any dirt, dust, etc.
- check all the cabling inside the chassis, look for any loose connections and cables
- re-seat all the components and if by any chance you have alcohol which is designed for cleaning PC's in general use it
- double check graphic drivers and see if it is happening in the safe mode as well
- generally check all the drivers and see if the system is fully updated (including BIOS)
- check for any enhancements settings for GPU card, sometimes they make it worse than better experience
- check if your PSU is juicy enough to handle the GPU card

What is more, your GPU card may be just dying, unfortunately there are no things that would last forever so what you can do in order to check it if you have any other GPU card at your place , replace the current GPU card with it and see what happens if the results are the same?

Of course as it has been said previously run all the possible tests

What drive do you have the games installed on? How much room do you have on that 240GB drive?

Games freezing and then exiting to desktop and Delta Force crash said "faulty application path" getting this error i would point a finger at a bad drive, or it has bad sectors it trying to write data to and cant.

Thank you for actually asking a question instead of just saying “clean PC” and “see if PSU is good enough”.

I use the m.2 Samsung to boot windows and run the games. I actually just reconnected the SATA drive yesterday because I ran out of room. No difference in crashing. I’ve stayed updated with my drivers the entire time, I currently have the latest driver.

Someone earlier recommended running all these tests but wasn’t specific at all as to what settings to choose or how to read the findings so it seemed like a copy and paste to me.

I got new Mobo, Ram, and CPU about a year or so ago. I can’t remember if games were crashing before that tbh. When installing the M.2, all I did was plug it in to the mobo from the old Mobo and everything worked so I left it instead of reinstalling windows and such. I have a weird situation where I took windows from an old PC and didn’t want to have to deal with that situation
