wierd question, well i play unreal tournament a lot, and i can tell that a mouse is like very important here, anyway i recommend those microsoft optical ones, no ball to worry about, and very accurate..just sweet! but don't try those wireless ones..they just suck!

Logitech trackMan marble wheel. IT'S THE BEST DEVICE THERE IS FOR GAMING !!!

Yeah the Microsoft optical all the way. I have the cheaper one and the more expensive one. I like the more expensive one and wouldn't be without one. I been threw three in the last couple years.

I would reccomend the Logitech dual optical mouseman. I just got one, and it's really great. VERY accurate, responds immediatly- blew away my Microsoft mouse. Plus it feels really comfortable, and the weight is just right- yeah it's $50, but it's worth it!

Only if you let me see the Umpa Lumpa- Homer Simpson.

There is only one mouse for gaming:

BOOMSLANG

Its a real pain in the but to get used to, but once you do. There is nothing better. Also the mouse pad makes a lot of difference. Get a ratpad or any hard surfaced pad that is designed for gaming. ANy type of change will take some getting used to, but its worth it.
PS: The boomslang is expensive as hell, but there is a reason why.

year 2010: Intel? Whose that?

The MS Intelli Explorer is fantastic. Very comfy for hours of UT fun. I tried the Tracball Explorer I use at work but could never get use to staring at the floor or ceiling while I was getting pasted. AVIOD the wireless, they suck, I packed up and returned that puppy the same day.

Where ever you go, there you are.

I agree, I had a wireless Logitech that I loved, except it sucked for gaming. I suddenly did a lot better when I grabbed an Intellimouse Explorer v3. I have two now, since they're so comfortable.

I actually went back to using my MS optical after using a Dual from Logitech. It just felt way too heavy compared to the feather light MS mice. And I could not really feel the 'increased' accuracy since the MS mice take 6000 shots a second.

I've always wanted to try a Boomslang... but I haven't been able to justify spending that much for a mouse yet. Besides I just upgraded my MS Wheel Mouse to my new Optical Wheel Mouse and I LOVE it! It is SOOOOO much more accurate.

I have a question for you Optical Mouse users. What surface do you guys use? So far I've just been using the top of my desk but I was wondering if there are any special surfaces for optical mice.

There are not any 'special' surfaces for optical mice, but there are ones to recommend =) If you are a hardcore gamer, you may prefer one of the low friction mouse pads available, I think one company is Ratpadz, or something to that effect. Personally, I play a lot of games, but I prefer using my gel-mouse pad since it is the most comfortable.

this is not really a mouse recommendation, but just in case you werent using, or didnt know what this setting did, you should turn on mouse smoothing, it does make a difference and actually makes it seem like youre getting a higher framerate.
basically all this does is average out the mouse signal, so if youre jerky, as all humans by nature are, it will make it smoother

The first LAN party I went to was at a PETA convention. They booted me when I shot a crab in HL!

I used to have this option enabled, and like you said, it makes things seem smoother. But this is at the expense of accuracy/precision. It's pretty noticable when playing CS, to me at least :)

i love my MS Explorer 3.0 optical mouse...
exceedingly slick and accurate (wish my hand eye co-ordination was as good!) LOL

its so smooth ive once let go of the mouse to stand up and accidentally pused it of the edge of the desk! hehehe

Hi.

Stick to either MS optical or Logitech Dual Optical, they are booth VERY!!!!! nice =)
The real differance is how you would like the mouse to fit in ypur hand....I'm a Logitech man, but try em both and see which suits u best (IMHO)

I dislike wireless devices for gaming from personal experience. I have used a wireless optical mouse from Logitech, and even with brand new batteries, there was always a noticable lag between my movements and the screen response, which doesn't happen with my normal optical MS mouse. I still think wireless is really convenient for everyday use, but for gaming when accuracy and response times matter, the wireless just didn't cut it. Add that to the fact that the Logitech mouse was quite heavy, due to the fact that it needed 2 AA batteries, and the bother of having to change the batteries, just didn't make having wireless worth it.

Intellimouse Explorer v3. Anyway, did you guys know that with optical mices you can life it about 1/2 - 1 ince off the desk and it would still work? Talk about NO friction at all  .
