Just got new SAS drive, does nothing

I just got a new Seagate 2tb constellation (ST32000444SS) off ebay. It has an SAS interface, and I bought an SAS to SATA adapter. When I turn on my computer, it does nothing, not even spin up. I tested the adapter with a SATA drive and it works fine. The seller does not accept returns, so do I need to install some kind of driver for it, or buy a PCI SAS controller? or is it DOA?

Unless you bought it as is, and a working drive, you can return it cause it isnt what he said it was.

You need a system with an SATA controller that supports SAS drives or one that has an a SAS controller.

SAS drives are meant for an enterprise/storage server so as to retrieve data quick and easily.

SAS drives will not operate on a SATA adapter. Those adapters are meant for using SATA drives on a SAS backplane.

You can't connect a SAS drive to a SATA backplane/controller because it won't work.

SAS is Serial Attached SCSI. The SAS drive uses the SCSI command set not SATA.

Have you checked the serial number with Seagate as to the warranty status and when it was sold?

Look closely at the connector--there's no space between the data and power connectors. And you can't see it here, but in the place where the space would be on a SATA interface, there's another 7 pins on the other side.
